The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has arrested 245 suspects, and recovered dangerous weapons and illicit drugs, in different parts of the territory.

It was learnt that the operation conducted between February 6, and February 23, 2025, targeted criminal hideouts, black spots, and abandoned buildings across the FCT.

Areas affected by the raids include Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, Karu, and Byazhin, among others.

According to the FCT Police Command, the suspects are currently undergoing profiling, and screening, with those found guilty set to face prosecution.

“During the operations, security operatives seized a variety of weapons, and items linked to criminal activities, including a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

Other items seized from the suspects include three axes, three machetes, six small tubes of glue, five handmade bongs, eight pairs of scissors, five identification cards, several small transparent plastic containers, and various pills suspected to be illicit substances.

“As part of its broader security measures, the police have increased surveillance on abandoned buildings, and isolated areas identified as potential hideouts for criminals.

“Intelligence reports suggest that some of these locations are being used for illicit activities, including drug abuse and organized crime.

“To combat this trend, security forces have raided several abandoned structures, clearing them of illegal occupants.

“Property owners have been urged to secure their buildings, while relevant government agencies have been encouraged to take swift action to address the growing concern,” the command said in a statement.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a safe, and secure environment for all residents of the FCT.

He urged the public to remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activities.

“The FCT Police Command assured residents that it will continue to take decisive action against all forms of criminality, urging community members to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime,” it added.
