The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Nura Auwal, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old boy in the Lugbe area of Abuja.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident was reported on October 24, 2025, by the victim’s father, Mr. Sani Yakubu, at the Trademore Police Division. Mr. Yakubu stated that his son returned home in distress the previous day, claiming he had been assaulted by the suspect in a nearby bush where he had gone to relieve himself.
The boy further alleged that Auwal gave him ₦200 and threatened to kill him if he spoke about the incident. The child was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Garki for medical attention.
Following the report, officers from the Trademore Division launched a swift operation that led to the arrest of the suspect within the Lugbe vicinity. Preliminary investigations revealed that Auwal may have a history of similar offenses and was allegedly introduced to the act by an acquaintance in Katsina State.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, condemned the incident in strong terms, reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of sexual and gender-based violence. He assured the public that the victim is receiving appropriate medical care and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command also urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or cases of abuse to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.
