The Kano State State Police Command says it has arrested 17 thugs in connection to a planned violent protest in the state.
Briefing newsmen on Wednesday, spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command’s has put in place adequate security measures, to prevent any potential breakdown of law and order in the state.
“Following credible intelligence reports of a planned violent protest by some individuals, the command in collaboration with other security agencies, has deployed personnel and assets to strategic locations within Kano metropolis to prevent the protest, and ensure public safety.
“As a result of these proactive measures, 17 suspected thugs have been arrested, and investigation is ongoing,” he stated.

Kiyawa further warned individuals and groups against engaging in any form of unlawful gathering, procession, or violence, pointing out that any of such actions will be met with swift, and decisive response from the security agencies.
While urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, he assured of the command’s resolve to ensure that the perpetrators of the planned violence are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, there is a heavy security beef up around State Road, close to Gida Nassarawa, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero resides, and also around the Government House, Kano.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, a group of demonstrators were seen mobilizing around Kofar Nassarawa before the police came and fired tear gas to disperse them.
Although, the motive(s) behind the protest remains, but security has been tightened in parts of the state capital.
