The Delta State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected cultists and armed robbery suspects in separate operations in Ughelli and Sapele, following renewed cult clashes and killings in parts of the state.

The arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, ordering an intensified, intelligence-led manhunt for cultists and other violent criminal elements across the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team dismantled a cult killing network linked to recent violence in Ughelli Town.

Edafe said two suspects, identified as Warri Ochuko, of Orogun community and Lucky Okohwoake, of Afiesere community, both in Ughelli North Local Government Area, were initially arrested based on credible intelligence.

He said the suspects made confessional statements during interrogation, which led to further coordinated operations across Ughelli metropolis and the arrest of six additional suspects.

The suspects were identified as Richard William, Onorode Pius, Sunday Jakpor, Victory Ogbemudia, Raymond Arhiakpore, and Precious Wanogho.

The police revealed that a locally made gun and four live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to being members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity and admitted their involvement in the killing of one Alex Adanike, who was murdered on January 15, 2026, at the Iwhrekpokpo area of Ughelli,” the statement read.

In a separate operation in Sapele on January 26, 2026, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team stormed a suspected criminal hideout at the Irapa area of the town and arrested three suspects.

They were identified as Kome Temienoro, Ogaga Omogene, and Biokoro Francis.

Edafe said a search of the premises led to the recovery of a wooden-carved pistol, a battle axe, a bulletproof vest, quantities of illicit drugs and other incriminating items.

He added that a white Toyota Venza vehicle, suspected to have been used for criminal operations, was also recovered.

“The suspects are currently being profiled, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of their involvement in cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the police said.
