The Kano State Police Command on Monday announced significant operational successes in its fight against crime, with 107 suspects arrested in August 2025 alone.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, said the arrest was carried out through the ‘Operation Kukan Kura’ initiative, a community-centered policing approach which has led to a notable reduction in thuggery-related crimes (Fadan-Daba) across the various communities in the state.
He said the operations resulted in the arrest of suspects involved in various crimes, including eight armed robbery suspects, eight suspected kidnappers, three human trafficking suspects, and 14 suspected drug dealers, including 61 suspected thugs (Yan-Daba), among others.
He said the recoveries include one AK-47 rifle, seven fabricated guns, 11 live ammunition rounds, seven motor vehicles, and eight motorcycles.
Others include the seizure of substantial quantities of suspected narcotics, including 111 parcels and 458 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa, among others.
Bakori also highlighted that the ‘Operation Kukan Kura’, launched on July 1, 2025, engages communities as active stakeholders in policing efforts, leveraging residents as the eyes and ears of the police within neighbourhoods.

He emphasized that the operation incorporates both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
He further noted that since its inception, the operation has recovered 473 dangerous weapons and large quantities of illicit drugs.
While commending the officers for their dedication to service, he reaffirmed the command’s commitment to refining strategies and maintaining technological capabilities to address emerging security challenges.
He urged Kano State residents to continue partnering with the police by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact numbers.
