A 55-year-old woman, Cecilia Idowu, has been arraigned by Ondo State police command before an Akure Magistrate’s Court, for allegedly killing and dumping the corpse of her tenant, Stephen Haruna inside the well.

The Trumpet gathered that Haruna died after drinking palm oil given to him by the suspect at night.

Police investigators are still unfolding the motive for the incident which happened at Oke-Igbala Street in Oge area, Okeagbe, Akoko.

According to a witness the landlady was apprehended after the victim’s corpse was found inside the well in front of her house.

Cecilia who was arrested on the day she committed the crime was arraigned on two counts charges of conspiracy and murder.

But, she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Police prosecutor, Simon Wada, told the court that the suspect contrived with others at large to commit the offence, saying the palm oil Haruna drank led to his death.

He stated that the landlady invited people to help her dump the deceased corpse.

The Police prosecutor said the deceased and the woman were the only ones living in the house and she confessed to having seen him when he returned home by 10:00 pm.

According to him, “A calabash filled with palm oil was found in the woman’s apartment.”

He added that the offence contravened Section 516 and 316 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2022

Wada prayed the court to remand the suspect at the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

However, the suspect’s lawyer, A. Adedire, requested an adjournment of the case for him to file a counter affidavit.

In his ruling, the Presiding Magistrate, Musa Al-Yunnus, adjourned the case to October 31 for ruling on the remand application.
