The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, for allegedly beating his mother, Salama Abdullahi, to death.
The incident occurred on February 24, 2025, in the Abujan Kwata area, as reported by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil.
According to the report, members of the peace and security committee alerted the police about the assault, which involved Dalhatu attacking his mother with a heavy pestle, resulting in severe injuries.
Salama Abdullahi (40) was said to have sustained fractures to both of her hands as well as other bodily injuries.
“Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Abdullahi Muazu, led detectives to the scene and rushed Salama to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

“Initial investigations indicate that a dispute between the mother and son led to the violent encounter.
“The police have recovered the weapon used in the incident, and are conducting a thorough investigation as directed by the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad,” the police said.
Wakil said that once detectives conclude investigation into the incident, Dalhatu is expected to face prosecution.
