Two-time FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup silver medalists, the Falconets have secured a spot in the final round of the African qualifying tournament for this year’s global event after defeating Senegal 2-1 in Diamniadio on Saturday evening.
With goals from Kindness Ifeanyi, who netted the only goal in the first leg in Abeokuta a week prior, and Precious Oscar, Nigeria achieved a 3-1 aggregate victory, propelling them into the final round where they will meet Malawi’s U-20 girls.
The Falconets opened the scoring at the Annexe Stade Abdoulaye Wade in the 19th minute when Ifeanyi headed in a goal from a corner kick.

This mirrored her previous goal at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, where she scored with a header from a corner taken by defender Tumininu Adeshina.
In the second half, Oscar followed suit by scoring another goal from a corner kick by Adeshina.
Senegal managed to score a consolation goal with 15 minutes remaining, but it was not enough to change the outcome as the Falconets maintained control to secure their place in the final round.
Malawi triumphed over Guinea Bissau in their match and will now face the Falconets in the final round of the series, with Africa set to send four teams to the final tournament in Poland scheduled for September.
