With France and Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba ’s contract coming to an end in Old Trafford this season, it is rumoured that Manchester City are eyeing a move to bring him to the Etihad Stadium The Trumpet gathered.

Though the details of the report is still sketchy, soccer pundit Jamie Redknapp believes the French international whose tempestuous six years stay at United has been criticised greatly, would be of great impact for City.

According to the Redknapp on Super Sunday studio, City manager has always fancied the embattled United midfielder which he has displayed on several occasions when both teams clash in the Manchester derby.

Manchester United six years ago, made the world cup winning star the most expensive player, a deal which was brokered by the late Mino Raiola, Pogba’s representative.

United’s acquisition of the former Juventus midfield maestro was to bolster the midfield and improve the quality of play of the Red Devils, but quite disappointing, Pogba has not lived up to expectation as his work rate has been unimpressive.

Following his performances, former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher categorically stated that he would not give it a second thought to include the 29 years old to his team.

Contrary to Carragher’s, Redknapp believes that Pogba, who would join Manchester City on a free transfer, will add value to the Guardiola’s side to prove a point to United that he got the stuff in him.

“It would be an incredible move and one that if I’m honest I haven’t seen coming. But you have to weigh it up; it’s a free transfer, he’ll have a point to prove because he’s taken a lot of stick while he’s been at Manchester United,” Redknapp posited during the debate.

“I’ve always watched Pep Guardiola in games between United and City, and he’s always gone over to him and had dialogue. He obviously respects him as a player.

“There was talk a few years ago that he might go for him. A player of his quality, no matter what you say about him, as a free transfer – high wages of course but that’s not a problem for Man City – you’d take him in a heartbeat.

“He adds a lot to this team and I think he’d be hungry to come and show what he can do. He lives in the area, it would be an incredible move, a brave move, but I’d love to see that in the Premier League. I think it makes sense all round,” he added.

Guardiola is searching for options to replace Fernandinho who will be on his way out of Manchester City at the end of the season after spending about a decade in the club with 261 appearances in all competitions.
