Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to transforming Nigeria’s education and healthcare sectors, declaring them as the twin pillars of national prosperity. Obi made this pledge during a visit to Bauchi State, where he donated a total of ₦25 million to three institutions focused on learning and health development.
In a statement shared on his official media handle, Obi described education and healthcare as “the two most critical pillars for building a strong and prosperous nation.” He explained that his trip to Bauchi was driven by his dedication to investing in these sectors to secure Nigeria’s future.
Obi’s first stop was at Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Bauchi, where he donated ₦10 million to support the training of healthcare professionals and upgrade the school’s infrastructure. “Good healthcare begins with well-trained personnel, and such investments are vital for our collective well-being,” he said.
He also visited Madrasatu Intisharul Islam Qismu Tahfizul Qur’an, an Almajiri school in Yelwa, Bauchi Local Government Area, praising the institution for combining Qur’anic studies with basic formal education. Obi donated ₦5 million to the school, stressing that no child should be left behind in the pursuit of knowledge.

At Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Obi engaged with the Student Union leadership, commending their national awareness and urging them to remain steadfast in their studies as they hold the key to Nigeria’s future.
The former Anambra State governor later met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed to discuss issues of mutual interest, especially strategies for Nigeria’s development.
Obi concluded his visit at Thomas Moore College of Health Sciences and Technology, Bauchi, where he donated another ₦10 million to boost the institution’s capacity for training competent healthcare professionals.
“For us to get a better Nigeria, we must begin with deliberate investments in our people through quality education, improved healthcare, and opportunities that ensure no region is left behind. To improve our nation, we must invest in education, health, and lifting our people out of poverty,” Obi said.
This visit adds to Obi’s track record of philanthropy and advocacy for human capital development, reinforcing his stance that Nigeria’s revival hinges on empowering its citizens through education and health.
