Just one week after a petrol tanker explosion in Niger State claimed nearly 100 lives and left many injured, another tragic incident has rocked Enugu State, leaving at least 15 people dead and scores injured.
The latest explosion has sparked widespread concern, with former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, taking to his official X handle to express deep sorrow over the repeated tragedies.
“The frequency of these tragic incidents is deeply concerning,” Obi wrote. “This month alone, there have been at least three devastating tanker explosions across the country, leading to the loss of countless precious lives and properties.”

Peter Obi called for immediate and sustained efforts to prevent such disasters, emphasizing the urgent need for safer roads and stricter safety measures. He highlighted the importance of fixing Nigeria’s deteriorating road infrastructure, implementing strict road safety regulations, and educating citizens on the correct protocols during emergencies.
“My heart goes out to the families who have been devastated by the loss of their loved ones in this terrible accident,” Obi added. “I also sympathize with the government and people of Enugu State over this tragic occurrence. May God grant eternal rest to the dead and quick healing to the injured.”
The recent spate of tanker explosions has raised questions about the state of Nigeria’s roads and the enforcement of safety regulations. Many citizens have called for better monitoring of fuel tanker operations and stricter compliance with transportation safety standards.
