Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised Nigerian youths for their resilience, creativity, and excellence as the world marks International Youth Day. In a heartfelt message, Obi described the nation’s young people as “the true engine of progress” and “the architects of the future,” calling on leaders to urgently address the growing youth unemployment crisis.

Obi lauded the achievements of Nigerian youths across various sectors, from education and health to technology, sports, and innovation, noting that their consistent display of hard work and brilliance has brought pride to the nation both locally and internationally.

However, he expressed concern over the alarming statistics that show over 45% of Nigerian youths are unemployed or underemployed despite making up about 70% of the country’s population. He stressed that no nation can thrive while neglecting its young population, warning that the continued lack of investment in youth empowerment threatens Nigeria’s future.

“Investing in quality education, accessible healthcare, and entrepreneurship support is the surest path to national transformation,” Obi said. “A country that invests in its youth guarantees its survival and secures its greatness.”

Reaffirming his commitment to championing youth development, Obi called for the creation of an environment where Nigerian youths can nurture their talents, pursue their dreams, and reap the rewards of their hard work with dignity.

He urged leaders and stakeholders to see Nigerian youths as a priceless asset for sustainable development and transformation, emphasizing the need to build a safe, secure, and just society where opportunities match skills, and aspirations meet reality.

Obi’s message resonated widely on social media, with many young Nigerians echoing his call for policies that prioritize youth empowerment as a cornerstone of national progress.
