Perplexity has taken a significant leap into mobile with the release of Comet for Android, introducing one of the first fully AI-driven browsers available on phones. The new app mirrors the desktop experience, allowing users to summon Perplexity’s assistant as they move across the web.
The launch places Perplexity ahead of several competitors still tied to desktop platforms. ChatGPT Atlas remains limited to macOS, while Google’s use of Gemini inside Chrome functions more as an add-on than a true AI browsing system. Comet first appeared for Max subscribers in July before reaching a wider audience, and the Android debut marks the company’s latest step in broadening access.

Users can speak directly to the browser through voice mode, ask questions about what is open in their tabs, or request quick summaries of dense material. Syncing for history and bookmarks is not yet active across devices, though the company says the feature is close. Work is underway to bring the rest of Comet’s advanced tools to Android, including a more capable voice engine and a native password manager. For now, Android’s system manager still works inside the browser.
