The Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed is optimistic that the party will emerge stronger in preparation for the 2027 general elections, despite a recent trend of defections.
In an interview with reporters in Abuja on Saturday, Gov. Mohammed acknowledged that the recent departures of governors and lawmakers were concerning, but emphasized that the PDP is actively working behind the scenes to restore unity and regain public trust.
He criticized the APC-led federal government for using coercive tactics to undermine the opposition and push Nigeria towards a one-party system.
“While I am worried about our governors joining the APC, leadership involves bearing burdens. We are quietly making significant efforts to keep the party united,” he stated.
The governor asserted that the defections would not hinder the PDP’s resurgence, noting that grassroots supporters nationwide still strongly align with the party.
“Even those who have left understand that the PDP remains deeply embedded in the community. They may have been swayed by political calculations, but our base remains loyal,” he remarked.
Gov. Mohammed also indicated that further defections might happen but reassured that the PDP structure in Bauchi State remains intact.
“Some of my senators may leave, but the state is still PDP. Nigerians are seeking change, and they continue to see hope in our party,” he added.
He stressed that the PDP has been fundamental to Nigeria’s development and is the only credible platform capable of rebuilding the nation.

“Most of the measurable achievements of the federal government occurred under PDP administrations. With unity and determination, we will reclaim leadership in 2027,” he asserted.
Regarding rumors of defections by Enugu Governor, Peter Mbah and Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, Gov. Mohammed confirmed that both remain with the PDP, praising Gov. Fubara as a humble leader who has faced significant political challenges with bravery.
He also addressed speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s involvement in the PDP’s 2027 plans, stating that the party welcomes prominent individuals willing to return or support its objectives.
“As governors, we have committed to setting aside personal ambitions and supporting whoever can lead Nigeria away from the deceptive leadership of the APC,” he said.
Gov. Mohammed reiterated his commitment to the PDP, assuring that the party will emerge stronger and more united as it approaches the 2027 elections.
