The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a warning to its members endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027, vowing that such acts of defiance will attract severe sanctions. In a statement released on Friday, August 8, 2025, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) described these endorsements as blatant violations of the PDP Constitution and a dangerous threat to its unity and electoral strength.

According to the statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the NWC expressed deep concern over “persistent public media outbursts” by some prominent members openly declaring support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledging to work for Tinubu’s victory in 2027. The party stressed that such actions are expressly forbidden under Section 10(6) of its Constitution, which prohibits any member from aligning with other political parties or groups to undermine the PDP or its elected government.

The NWC lamented that these anti-party activities have already caused significant damage, fueling internal divisions, creating disaffection among loyal members, and prompting defections that could weaken the PDP’s chances in future elections if not addressed immediately. The committee warned that offenders who fail to “retrace their steps” will face stiffer disciplinary measures as outlined in Section 59(1) of the PDP Constitution.

“This is a strong reprimand,” the statement read. “We caution those involved to desist immediately or face the full consequences of their actions. The PDP will not allow the conduct of a few to derail the collective aspirations of millions of members across the country.”

The party urged all members to remain loyal and focused as it prepares for its highly anticipated National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. The convention is expected to shape the PDP’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections and reaffirm its position as Nigeria’s main opposition force.

This warning marks one of the PDP’s strongest public responses to internal dissent in recent years.
