Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Shehu Adamu Furas (rtd), Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee in Gombe State, has officially resigned from the party and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Furas, a respected figure within the PDP, submitted his resignation after what he described as “deep personal reflection and wide consultation.” In his letter, he revealed that his decision was driven by a desire to continue his political journey on a platform he believes is better aligned with his vision for democratic advancement and national development.

The former PDP stalwart took time to commend his years in the party, describing them as enriching and politically transformative. He recalled his participation in the 2023 PDP Gubernatorial Primaries in Gombe State, where he emerged third, a moment he said marked a significant chapter in his political career.

Furas also highlighted the experience he gained during his time in the PDP, noting it broadened his understanding of grassroots politics and the importance of fostering unity and cohesion within party structures. He expressed appreciation to PDP members across various levels, especially in Pantami Ward, for their unwavering support throughout his time with the party.

His defection is the latest in a growing wave of high-profile exits from the PDP as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections. Observers say Furas’ departure further highlights the internal cracks within the PDP in Gombe and the rising appeal of the ADC among disenchanted stakeholders.
