The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, led by Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, has announced that the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, will reopen on Monday.
The announcement was made by the faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, following a quarterly consultative meeting between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and leaders of political parties in Abuja.
The PDP national secretariat was sealed by the Nigeria Police Force on November 19, 2025, following a leadership dispute between the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the caretaker committee headed by Mohammed.
Speaking on why the party had not earlier regained access to the secretariat, Acting National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, explained that the police sealed the premises after the clash between the two factions.
“We contacted the police. They sealed the premises, and the other group approached the court seeking an order to reopen it. However, the court struck out the case for lack of locus standi. Consequently, we will reclaim the office on Monday,” Anyanwu said.
He maintained that there is no factional leadership within the PDP, insisting that the party is currently operating under the National Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed, which he said was duly recognised by INEC.
Anyanwu also cited a recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which he said invalidated the purported PDP convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025.
“The court clearly stated that the so-called convention is null and void. No other group should lay claim to being members of the PDP National Working Committee. The National Caretaker Committee under Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the only recognised body to manage the party,” he stated.

Expressing optimism over the party’s future, Anyanwu said stability had returned to the PDP, assuring members that the party would field candidates in all forthcoming elections.
“We are pleased that normalcy has returned. Members are happy, and experienced hands who have managed this party for over 25 years are still involved. All necessary processes will be fast-tracked,” he said.
On the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, Anyanwu disclosed that the caretaker committee would immediately commence campaign activities, adding that efforts would continue until the February 18 deadline.
Commenting on INEC’s registration of two new political parties, he welcomed the development, describing it as a boost for Nigeria’s democratic process.
“For us, this is a positive development. It means we now have 21 political parties in Nigeria, which is healthy for democracy,” he added.
