Seven governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed a suit at the Supreme Court, challenging the six-month suspension of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly by President Bola Tinubu.
The governors of Bauchi, Adamawa, Bayelsa, Enugu, Osun, Plateau, and Zamfara States, who filed the suit, described the suspension as unconstitutional, unlawful, and a gross violation of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
They are urging the Supreme Court to rule that the president lacks the authority to suspend a democratically elected governor.

In their suit, the governors also called for the nullification of the appointment of a sole administrator to govern Rivers State, arguing that such an action has no legal basis.
Additionally, they challenged the use of voice vote by the National Assembly to ratify President Tinubu’s decision, questioning the legitimacy of the process.
The plaintiffs further sought an order from the Supreme Court, restraining the federal government from suspending any other state governor or interfering with their constitutional and statutory duties.
Gov. Fubara, his deputy, and state lawmakers were suspended by the president on March 18, after he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing political instability.
