The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a dramatic turn as the Chief Tom Ikimi-led National Disciplinary Committee has summoned the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, and ten others over allegations of anti-party activities.

This move follows recent petitions accusing high-ranking members of the party of working against PDP’s interests. Ikimi, who heads the disciplinary panel, disclosed that the committee had reviewed five petitions, some of which were directed at prominent figures within the National Working Committee (NWC).

In a bid to support ongoing reconciliation efforts spearheaded by the PDP Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees, the committee decided to set aside three petitions involving key NWC members. However, it resolved to proceed with the cases against former Governor Ortom, Senator Anyanwu, and ten others, summoning them to appear before the panel on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

The summoned individuals, along with the petitioners and their witnesses, are expected to present their defense. The panel has already issued official notices to all involved parties, emphasizing its commitment to discipline, party integrity, and internal order. It also urged PDP members with grievances to follow due process and utilize the party’s internal mechanisms for resolution.

Meanwhile, Ortom’s camp has responded to the summons, with his Media Adviser, Nathaniel Ikyur, stating that the former governor had not yet received any official communication.

“I’ve not received any invitation. When I receive it, I will honor it. I cannot act based on posts on social media. There are people who should also appear,” Ortom said.
As tensions rise, all eyes are now on the PDP leadership to see whether these disciplinary measures will heal the party or further deepen internal divisions.
