The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday at the lodge of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, following Monday’s ruling by the Court of Appeal that upheld a Federal High Court order restraining the party from holding its national convention.
The meeting was chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara and attended by prominent party figures, including Tanimu Turaki, Umar Damagum, former PDP Deputy National Chairman Bode George, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, among others.
In his opening remarks, Wabara described the appellate court’s judgment as “an opportunity for the PDP to begin afresh,” signalling a new chapter for the party amid ongoing leadership disputes.
Earlier in the day, the Turaki-led caretaker committee held a separate briefing, welcoming the appellate court decision as a validation of their leadership.
The committee confirmed that plans for the party’s national convention, slated for later this month, would proceed despite the ruling.

The Court of Appeal dismissed an appeal by the Turaki-led faction, which claims leadership of the PDP following last year’s Ibadan convention, where members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were elected.
In response, the Turaki faction announced that its legal team would immediately approach the Supreme Court to challenge the judgment, indicating that the party’s leadership dispute is far from resolved.
Observers say the emergency BoT meeting reflects the party’s urgent need to reconcile internal differences ahead of critical political events, including preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The meeting comes amid rising calls from party stakeholders for dialogue and unity to strengthen the PDP’s organisational structure and political strategy.
