The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State, has expressed deep concern over the conduct of Saturday’s by-election in Shanono/Bagwai Constituency, saying, the elections were characterised by reports of intimidation and thuggery.
The state party Chairman’, Yusuf Kibiya, expressed the concern while briefing newsmen on his observation of the electoral process in the area.
He said the use of violence or the threat to influence voters or the outcome of the by-election is unacceptable and must be condemned, noting that such act do not only endanger lives but destroys public trust in democratic institutions.
“We reject the behaviour observed from some quarters which we believe is aimed at bending the electoral process to the advantage of particular interest,” he stated.

The state PDP chairman therefore urged the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for all candidates, including that of the PDP.
While calling on all authorities concern to promptly investigate any reported violation and sanction offenders in accordance with the law, Kibiya called on the Kano State government and national leaders to refrain from inflammatory statements and actions that could escalate tensions in the state.
The re-run elections in Ghari/Tsanyawa Constituency witnessed an impressive turn out of voters in polling units visited.
When journalists visited polling units within Ghari local government areas, residents were seen lined up, ready to exercise their civi rights.
Security personnel comprising of the police and civil defence were stationed at the various polling centres.
