Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, has surrendered himself to the Lagos State Police amid mounting allegations of misconduct that have sparked widespread public attention.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed that Okafor voluntarily presented himself to the authorities after failing to honour an earlier police invitation issued by the State Criminal Investigation Department. He had reportedly been invited on Monday but did not appear as scheduled, prompting the police to order his arrest.
Speaking on the development on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, said the cleric later showed up a day after the missed appointment.
“When he was invited, he communicated through his lawyer that he would come on Monday. We waited for him throughout that day, but he did not arrive, so I ordered his arrest. He then appeared the following day,” Jimoh stated.
The police commissioner disclosed that the matter has now been escalated to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Sylvester Alabi, for further investigation.
According to Jimoh, preliminary checks revealed that the same allegations had already been formally reported at the Zone 2 headquarters, where an investigation had been ongoing for several weeks before Okafor’s appearance at the Lagos Command.
“We later discovered that the issue had already been reported at the Zone 2 headquarters. I confirmed this with the AIG, who told me that investigations had been underway under his command for about three weeks,” Jimoh said.

Addressing the growing public outcry surrounding the case, the police commissioner noted the increasing role of social media in exposing alleged abuses and drawing the attention of law enforcement agencies.
“Social media has become a powerful platform for people to express their grievances. We no longer wait for individuals to physically report cases before acting in the public interest. Failure to respond promptly could lead to a breakdown of law and order,” he added.
The controversy involving Pastor Okafor began in mid-December 2025, when multiple allegations surfaced online, triggering intense debate and calls for a thorough investigation.
Police authorities have assured the public that the matter will be handled with professionalism and transparency, as investigations continue into the claims against the cleric.
