In the wake of the death of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Oyo State Police Command has rolled out robust security measures to ensure peace and order during the transition period.
Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, announced on Tuesday in Ibadan that the command has intensified security operations around key locations, including the Olubadan’s palace and surrounding communities. He emphasized that the measures are part of a coordinated strategy to safeguard lives, protect public property, and guarantee a seamless and dignified transition for the revered monarch.
According to Adenola, police deployments have been increased, with officers stationed strategically across the city. Mobile patrols, surveillance operations, and intelligence-driven checkpoints are now active in Ibadan and its environs to monitor and prevent any form of unrest. He noted that these efforts are being carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to maintain calm and public confidence.

The Commissioner paid tribute to Oba Olakulehin, describing the late monarch as a peace-loving and crime-fighting traditional leader whose influence helped foster stability in the region. Adenola acknowledged the loss as deeply painful, stating that the Olubadan’s legacy would continue to inspire both traditional rulers and government authorities in the fight against insecurity.
He called on residents to remain law-abiding and go about their daily activities without fear, assuring the public that there is no cause for panic. He urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to educate youths on the importance of respecting law and order during this sensitive period. Those found engaging in any activity that threatens the peace, he warned, would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The Police Commissioner extended heartfelt condolences to the Olubadan-in-Council, the royal family, and the people of Oyo State. Oba Olakulehin, who passed on at the age of 90, was hailed as a symbol of wisdom, peace, and leadership. As the ancient city of Ibadan mourns its monarch, security agencies are now working around the clock to ensure the transition is not only smooth but also reflective of the late king’s towering legacy.
