Overland Airways, Nigeria’s longest-serving private airline, has resumed commercial flight operations to Warri’s Osubi Airport from Lagos and Abuja, signaling a new chapter for air connectivity in the Niger Delta region. The much-anticipated relaunch was officially announced on Tuesday, May 20, during a press briefing held at the Osubi Airport, drawing attention from aviation stakeholders and business leaders across the region.
This strategic move by Overland Airways comes as a response to growing demand for reliable flight services connecting Delta State with Nigeria’s commercial and political capitals. The airline, known for its consistent service and safety record, will now operate flights between Warri, Lagos, and Abuja three times weekly, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The carefully planned schedule ensures convenient morning departures and returns, offering flexibility for business and leisure travelers alike.
At the heart of this renewed operation is the deployment of the airline’s brand-new 88-seater Embraer E175 jet, equipped with both Premium and Economy Class cabins. The cutting-edge aircraft offers passengers enhanced comfort, modern in-flight amenities, and a smoother flying experience. This addition marks a significant evolution in Overland’s fleet, previously composed entirely of turboprop aircraft, as the airline positions itself for a more competitive and modern future.
During the launch event, Overland Airways’ Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Aderonke Emmanuel-James, emphasized the airline’s commitment to bridging Nigeria’s regions and supporting socio-economic development through accessible air travel. She noted that the relaunch of the Warri route aligns with the company’s vision to strengthen regional connections and foster business growth across underserved cities.

In a bid to boost passenger numbers and stimulate regional travel, the airline has also introduced attractive promotional fares for early bookings. “We are committed to making air travel more affordable and accessible without compromising on our premium onboard experience,” Mrs. Emmanuel-James said, adding that Overland Airways is open to scaling up to daily flights based on customer demand.
Osubi Airport Manager, Mr. Winston Egwuatu, commended Overland’s decision to return to Warri, highlighting the airline’s partnership as a crucial milestone in rebuilding Delta State’s air infrastructure and boosting investor confidence in the region. He reaffirmed the airport’s readiness to support full-scale operations and deliver seamless services to travelers.
Beyond Warri, Overland Airways is expanding its domestic reach, having recently reinstated flights to Jalingo in Taraba State and launched new routes to Minna, Niger State. These developments form part of a broader strategy to strengthen domestic aviation and provide efficient alternatives to road travel.
With over two decades of experience in Nigeria’s aviation industry, Overland Airways continues to earn accolades for safety and reliability. The airline recently renewed its IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification for a record fifth consecutive time, reinforcing its reputation as one of Africa’s safest carriers.
Looking ahead, Overland Airways says it is eager to work with the Delta State Government and key stakeholders to transform Warri into a regional aviation hub that supports trade, tourism, and connectivity across West Africa. As the airline takes off once again from Osubi, it sets a new benchmark for regional air travel, promising innovation, affordability, and consistent service for all passengers.
