Tension is mounting in Delta State as at least 26 children have mysteriously disappeared from the Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area, sparking a massive protest by devastated mothers and residents.
Dressed in mourning black, scores of women stormed the streets of Agbarho, chanting sorrowful songs and wielding placards with chilling messages: “Stop Stealing Our Children,” “Where Are Our Kids?” and “We Want Justice.” Their cries echoed the growing fear and frustration engulfing the once-peaceful community.
According to local sources, the disappearances have occurred steadily over the past eight months, targeting children between the ages of 3 and 10. Many vanished on their way to school or while playing just outside their homes, without a trace, without a clue.
Despite numerous reports to security agencies and local authorities, no arrests have been made, and no children have been recovered. The silence from those in power has only deepened the residents’ pain and panic.
“We are living in fear every single day,” said Mrs. Efe Okoro, a grieving mother who joined the protest. “Children go to school and never return. Some vanish right in front of their homes. It’s like a nightmare we can’t wake up from.”

Another protester, Mrs. Itohan Orugbo, didn’t mince words: “If these were the children of senators or top politicians, would they still be missing? Why is no one taking us seriously?”
The Ovie of Agbarho Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Ogurimerime Okorefe I, has declared the spate of disappearances a “declaration of war against the people.” In a strongly worded statement, he called on law enforcement to act immediately or risk total breakdown of law and order in the region.
He also urged local vigilante groups to step up community surveillance and advised parents to be extra vigilant. “We cannot allow our future to be stolen before our eyes,” the monarch warned.
The crisis in Agbarho is part of a disturbing trend, as reports of similar child disappearances have emerged from other parts of Delta State. With no clear answers and a growing sense of insecurity, families across the region are demanding swift action, justice; and the safe return of their missing children.
