Rita Uguamaye, known as Raye, recently completed her one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in Lagos State, but hasn’t received her discharge certificate.
She alleges that this is due to her criticism of President Bola Tinubu and his government on economic and infrastructure issues.
On social media platform X, many people have reacted strongly to her situation.
@_tobyblush remarked, “Raye stood up for us, which led to an increase in our allowance to N77,000. It’s incredibly unfair that she is now being denied her certificate.”
@officialnyscng urged, “Please do the right thing and give her what she deserves. She served her time and earned it.”
@ourfavdoc expressed frustration about the state of the country, saying, “we cannot let oppression and injustice continue unchecked. We need to support this brave young woman who is being targeted for speaking out. This could happen to any of us!”
@theboyisgreat pointed out that “look at what’s happening to Raye! She has been abandoned by her fellow corps members and government officials.

“No one is standing up for her, which is similar to what would have happened to Peter Obi if he had protested this year.”
@ElohoOtugo_ expressed concern, saying, “I’m not surprised that the NYSC wouldn’t issue Raye her certificate.
“Those of us who speak out should be cautious; these awful people are always looking for a way to retaliate.”
@aduraji commented on Raye’s service: “She dedicated a year of her life to helping her country. When she talks about her challenges, they’ll just label it as ‘demarketing,’ but it’s simply her reality.”
@Uncle_hompage pointed out that the NYSC is losing relevance. “They’re no longer appealing to young people. Instead of improving and connecting with us, they choose to bully and punish Raye for having the courage to speak up.”
Amnesty International has stepped in, calling for the release of her NYSC discharge certificate and expressing concerns about her right to speak freely.
