The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the peacebuilding process in the Niger Delta, describing it as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to national stability and regional development.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the second batch of Leadership, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Mediation Training in Abuja, Dr. Otuaro acknowledged the President’s strategic backing as a driving force behind the success of the programme. The event, held at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, was organized by PAP in collaboration with the Nigerian Army to equip stakeholders with leadership and mediation skills essential for sustaining peace in the oil-rich region.

Dr. Otuaro emphasized that President Tinubu’s intervention in the amnesty programme reflects a vision rooted in ensuring a secure and prosperous future for the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. He noted that sustainable peace in the region can only be achieved through deliberate and inclusive efforts, strongly backed by leadership at the highest level.

“I am very grateful to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for believing in the peacebuilding initiative undertaken by the PAP in our villages and communities,” Otuaro declared during his remarks. “Mr. President’s support has been tremendous, and it shows his profound commitment and dedication to peace, stability, and security for the accelerated development and socio-economic advancement in our region.”

Addressing the workshop participants, Otuaro called them critical partners in the peacebuilding journey and urged them to fully engage in the training sessions, describing their roles as vital in maintaining harmony in communities previously marked by unrest. He stated that their capacity development is central to the long-term goals of the PAP.

He also used the occasion to express sincere appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for providing consistent guidance and strategic input in the execution of the programme’s objectives. According to him, the support from the NSA’s office continues to bolster the overall success of the amnesty initiative.

Otuaro reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to an inclusive policy framework, announcing plans to empower women in the region, noting that they too had endured hardships during the years of conflict. He stressed that women must not be left behind in the ongoing process of healing, reintegration, and regional development.

The PAP boss concluded with a charge to the stakeholders to ignore distractions and focus on the critical lessons embedded in the training. He maintained that every participant must leave the workshop better equipped to function as peace ambassadors, not only for their communities but for the entire Niger Delta region.
