Governor Bassey Otu has congratulated former senator Florence Ita-Giwa on her 80th birthday, praising her lifelong commitment to protecting vulnerable groups and speaking out against human trafficking and exploitation.
In a message issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Linus Obogo, the governor described Ita-Giwa as “a moral sentinel in defence of womanhood and vulnerable lives,” noting that her public service has been guided by conviction and compassion.
According to Otu, her stance against injustice demonstrates that leadership goes beyond legislation and requires moral courage.
Reflecting on her advocacy during the Bakassi crisis, the governor said the title “Mama Bakassi” symbolises her unwavering support for displaced communities.
“That name is not ornamental,” he stated. “It represents loyalty to a distressed people and reflects sacrifice, empathy and steadfast presence in challenging times.”
Governor Otu also acknowledged her national service, including her appointment as Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He described the role as a recognition of her competence and influence in national governance.
