The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State took a fresh turn on Wednesday as Rep. Taofeek Ajilesoro, representing Ife Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, formally announced his resignation from the party.
Rep. Ajilesoro’s resignation letter, dated July 22, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Ilare Ward II in Ife Central Local Government Area, cited deep-seated divisions, persistent internal conflicts, and ongoing legal battles within the PDP as the reasons for his exit.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, effective immediately,” the lawmaker wrote.
He added: “This decision, though difficult, has become necessary due to the persistent internal conflicts, deep-seated divisions, and the pervasive culture of legal disputes that have unfortunately come to characterise the party.
“These factors have made it increasingly challenging for me to reconcile my continued membership with my personal convictions and aspirations for effective governance.”

Rep. Ajilesoro expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve under the PDP and said he hoped his decision would be respected in good faith.
The House of Representatives member is the latest in a string of high-profile resignations by PDP lawmakers in Osun State.
Earlier, Rep. Wole Oke, representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, and Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central), also dumped the party, raising concerns about the PDP’s internal cohesion ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Despite its landslide victory in the 2023 general elections, winning all three senatorial seats, all nine House of Representatives positions, and 25 out of the 26 state House of Assembly seats, the PDP in Osun State has been grappling with worsening factionalism and legal tussles that now threaten its political dominance.
