The Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has stepped up security and humanitarian efforts in Southern Taraba following the launch of a new initiative, Operation Zafin Wuta, which our correspondent learnt is aimed at restoring peace and strengthening stability across the zone.
The operation, which commenced on 22 November 2025, combines both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, including community engagement, humanitarian intervention, and an increased military presence across Takum and Wukari local government areas.
As part of the activities marking the launch, Brigadier General Kingsley C. Uwa, visited several Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps over the weekend. He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Chairman of Takum Local Government Council. The team distributed palliatives and relief materials to displaced families at 93 Battalion Mammy Market, Kufai-Amadu, and Chanchanji communities.
Addressing the IDPs, Brig Gen Uwa expressed sympathy over the attacks and criminal activities that forced them out of their homes. He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to neutralising criminal elements and restoring lasting peace, urging residents to support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely information.
Community leaders, while appreciating the intervention, appealed for sustained military efforts to enable displaced persons return safely to their ancestral communities.

The Brigade Commander later led troops on a Show of Force across Takum, Kufai-Amadu, Chanchanji, and parts of Wukari. He also paid a visit to the Aku-Uka of Wukari, where he briefed the monarch on the multidimensional approach of Operation Zafin Wuta and sought royal support in mobilising local intelligence.
The Aku Uka commended the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward restoring peace in Wukari and neighbouring areas. He pledged full cooperation with the Army and assured support in mobilising community backing for the operation.
According to the Nigerian Army, Operation Zafin Wuta is already making measurable progress, combining security operations with humanitarian outreach to protect communities and support vulnerable residents across Taraba State.
