Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the esteemed chieftaincy title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
The installation ceremony took place on Sunday at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State, drawing a large crowd of traditional rulers, cultural leaders, and dignitaries from across Yorubaland.
Mrs Tinubu, who arrived at the palace at about 1 p.m., was received with elaborate cultural displays, while security operatives ensured tight control of the event. The conferment also coincided with celebrations marking the 10th coronation anniversary of the Ooni.
Notable monarchs in attendance included the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III; the Sultan of Sokoto; and the Soun of Ogbomoso, among other dignitaries who gathered to witness the ceremony.
The title Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua holds deep historical relevance. It was previously held by the late Hannah Idowu Dideolu (HID) Awolowo, wife of the nationalist and former Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
