The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has appointed Prince Olagoke Owoyomi as the new Obajio of Ife, one of the most respected chieftaincy titles in the ancient Yoruba kingdom.
The appointment, which has sparked excitement across the royal community, was formally announced by Otunba Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace. This decision follows a rigorous and transparent selection process involving three eligible princes from two prominent ruling houses: the Alayo and Bamidein lineages.
Prince Olagoke Owoyomi, who hails from the Alayo ruling house in Moore, Ile-Ife, emerged as the Ooni’s choice after undergoing a detailed screening conducted by a five-member selection committee. The committee meticulously evaluated the credentials, background, and leadership qualities of all contenders. His rivals in the process were Prince Olagbenga Owoyomi and Prince Kola Ogunrinola, both representing the Bamidein ruling house.
In the official letter of appointment, Oba Ogunwusi commended Prince Owoyomi for his distinguished character, unwavering loyalty to Ile-Ife’s cultural heritage, and a proven track record of service to the people. The monarch encouraged the new Obajio to embrace his new role with humility and to prioritize unity, peace, and sustainable development across the Ife kingdom.
