Gary O’Neil has been appointed as the new manager of Strasbourg following Liam Rosenior’s departure to Chelsea earlier this week.
The 42-year-old, who has previously managed Premier League teams Bournemouth and Wolves, expressed his pride in joining a club with a “high-quality squad and clear, ambitious goals for the season.”
The former midfielder for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, and QPR remarked that “Racing has a unique history, incredible passion, great resilience, and, of course, devoted fans who want to see this team play attractive football and achieve success.
“My main focus is to work diligently with the team and give my all for the club’s success.”
Strasbourg, currently in seventh place in Ligue 1, acted quickly to appoint O’Neil after Rosenior’s six-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea was announced on Tuesday.
The French club is part of the BlueCo multi-club ownership group, which is also associated with Chelsea, owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Strasbourg president Marc Keller stated that O’Neil is a “demanding and respected coach with a modern approach to football that aligns perfectly with our sporting project.”
O’Neil will lead his first match in the French Cup against Avranches on Saturday.
After starting his managerial career at Bournemouth, O’Neil has managed 88 matches in the Premier League.
He took over from Scott Parker during the 2022-23 season and successfully kept the Cherries in the league, but was dismissed at the end of the season.
He quickly returned to management for the 2023-24 season with Wolves, leading them to a 14th-place finish in the Premier League and reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals.
However, his second season at Molineux was less successful, resulting in his dismissal in December 2024 while the team was in the relegation zone.
