The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi has vowed to make the Civil Defence a global elite organization by revamping, rejigging, and repositioning the Service.
Dr. Audi made the pledge on Monday while addressing Journalists during the official commissioning of the NSCDC Cooperative Housing estate at Kuje, Abuja as part of activities to mark his one year in office and the World Civil Defence Day 2022.
Dr. Audi, who earlier in the company of his wife, Hajia Aisha Audi, who is the National President of the Civil Defence Officers Wives Association (CDOWA), conducted the ground breaking and foundation laying of CDOWA Group of Schools and Skill Acquisition Centre at Sauka, Abuja, also stated that the NSCDC is doing a lot to enhance the welfare of officers of the Corps to boost their moral.
“We have achieved a lot. We have introduced a slogan that we are going to renew vigour to rejig, we are going to revamp, we are going to rejuvenate, we are going to resuscitate and we are going to above all reposition the Service.
“We have done a lot; we have established female division to give women a chance to showcase their talent. And we have introduced a lot of welfare packages.
“And I have said when I resumed office that my vision at the end when I am going to exit office, is to make the service a global elite organization that will protect civilians and protect critical national assets.
“Today, house keys are being handed over to officers and we are also laying a new foundation for another 102 buildings of 3 Bedrooms and 2 Bedrooms within the estate,” he said.
When asked about what he will do next and his one-year message for personnel of the Service, the Commandant General said, “I want to rededicate the Service; I want to rebuild for them a Service that will be incomparable to any other Service.
“I want to my personnel to imbibe the culture of civility, humility, transparency, accountability and above all fear of God on the affairs of the Corps.”

Earlier, while commissioning completed housing units at the NSCDC estates, he assured the officers that roads, curvets and state of the infrastructures will be provided for the comfort of personnel in the estate.
Dr. Audi, who expressed disappointment for naming the estate after him, renamed it as Dr. Ade Abolurin Estate, stating that the pioneer Commandant General made a lot of sacrifice for the NSCDC, which officials of the Corps are enjoying today.
“It was during my 100 days in office that we came here to lay the foundation for the groundbreaking and by tomorrow (Tuesday) it is going to be one year since I assumed office. I am so happy doing the commissioning of the prototype.
“I just want to correct an impression. When somebody is in office, don’t name any edifice in his name. You will wait until when I leave Service before you do that.
“So, let me rededicate this very beautiful estate of ours to be renamed as Dr. Ade Abolurin for the simple reason that he has sacrificed for the Service. We are all in the Service because he has made us passed through the Service and today, I think we have to do something symbolically for his sake, so that his name will be remembered. Perhaps, when I also leave Service, the person that will succeed me will name one project after me,” he stated.
The highpoint of the event was the presentation of keys to completed buildings in the estate to some personnel of the Corps and the laying of blocks for the construction of more buildings in the estate.
