An event took place in Ikorodu, Lagos, where a local student named Abdulazeez Abdulrahmon was awarded a cheque for N1 million after being named the one-day governor of Lagos State.
The cheque was presented by Mr. Wasiu Adesina, the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, during a ceremony on Monday.
In addition to the award for Abdulrahmon, the chairman also gave financial support to 50 students from Ikorodu, each receiving N40,000 as part of a bursary program aimed at helping those in need.
Abdulrahmon, who is a student at Oriwu Senior Model College in Ikorodu, won this title in October 2024 after also taking first place in the state’s Spelling Bee Competition.
During the event, he expressed his gratitude to the chairman for his ongoing support for education and youth empowerment in the community.
Miss Rofiat Oshineye, the President of the Ikorodu Students Association, also thanked the chairman for prioritizing education and leading by example.
In his address, Chairman Adesina emphasized the importance of education, stating that his government remains committed to supporting it despite financial challenges.

He expressed pride in his administration’s efforts, saying, “We are not just handing out checks; we are building a hopeful future for our young people.”
He reminded the students that success is not just for a fortunate few, but for anyone willing to work hard and pursue their dreams.
Adesina encouraged all students to serve as positive representatives of Ikorodu and to continue striving for greatness.
He praised Abdulrahmon for setting an example, highlighting that his achievement symbolizes hope for all children in Ikorodu who dream of a brighter future.
