Friday Omosola
Ondo State Government under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has expressed commitment to educating its residents on the significance of the Home Ownership Charter of Ondo State (HOCOS), a newly established agency in the State.
The scheme is an initiative of the State Government aimed at ensuring that every resident who owns a residential property has proper and genuine title documents to their properties.
During the awareness programme held on Friday at Ikare and Akungba Akoko, residents were urged to embrace the scheme, noting that it will offer the chance to individuals who built their properties without the state government’s approval or titles to secure a Certificate of Occupancy(C-of-O).
Reeling out other benefits of the scheme, the Coordinator of Ondo State Internal Revenue Tax Education and Enlightenment Team, Adeniyi Adejoro, stated that HOCOS would allow homeowners to take proper documentation and regularization of their properties’ legal status.
He further added that this would also provide adequate data for the government to facilitate the provision of basic amenities and strategic planning of essential services.

Adejoro also stated that the scheme has abrogated the interminable and strenuous processes of obtaining C-of-O with huge money, stressing that the process is now undemanding unlike before.
He also allayed the fear entrenched in the minds of the residents, saying the government is not on a revenge mission, adding that penalties and fines associated with their initial failure to do the needful would be waived.
