Executive Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters and Chairman of the Concerned Nigerians for Better Nigeria (CNBN), Olorogun Godwin Obire, has dismissed speculations that the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, is plotting to contest the governorship poll in Delta State.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba on Tuesday, Obire said all indications point to Omo-Agege’s interest in reclaiming the Delta Central Senate seat currently occupied by Senator Ede Dafinone, rather than contesting the 2027 governorship election.

“Let’s be clear, Omo-Agege will not run for governor. His target is Ede Dafinone’s Senate seat, but he wants it delivered to him on a platter of gold.

“He knows he cannot challenge Sheriff Oborevwori in the governorship race because the political calculations and indices are totally against him,” Obire stated.

The governor’s aide said Omo-Agege’s recent political maneuvers, including solidarity marches and media campaigns, were simply “negotiating tactics” to make his return to the Senate easier.

He argued that Omo-Agege’s decision to abandon his Senate seat in pursuit of the governorship in 2023 was a costly mistake.

“Had he held onto that seat, he could have easily risen to Senate President today. But blinded by over-ambition, he forced his way into the governorship race, where he was soundly defeated, managing to win only four out of 25 local governments,” Obire said.

On the performance of Gov. Oborevwori, the governor’s aide stressed that the administration’s achievements were evident, noting that the governor had never discouraged anyone from contesting against him.

“As a true democrat, Governor Oborevwori believes in open competition and fair party primaries. Most importantly, his record in office speaks for itself.

“He has performed excellently well, and I strongly believe the people are wise enough not to abandon proven leadership for empty promises,” he added.
