It was celebration and reflection on Friday, August 29, 2025, as workers and management of OML34 came together to mark their annual staff away day, a tradition dedicated to appreciating field workers and fostering stronger workplace bonds.
The event, themed “Igniting Innovation and Empowering People,” was held at Wetland Hotel, Motor, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State on Friday under a convivial atmosphere, with renewed commitment by both parties to strengthen collaboration for greater productivity.
Speaking at the occasion, Comrade Godwin Awoviebe, branch Chairman of PENGASSAN, ND Western, OML34, commended the workforce for their dedication and the management for maintaining cordial relations with employees.
“Gone are the days when union engagement was only about confrontation. Today, it is more about collaboration.
“For over two years now, we have enjoyed industrial harmony because management has been more open and willing to listen. Challenges remain, but we now sit at one table to dialogue,” Awoviebe said.
He described the relationship between management and the workforce as “robust, cordial, and progressive,” while urging management to sustain its listening posture and do even more to improve workers’ welfare.

Highlighting OML34’s operations, the PENGASSAN chairman explained that the joint venture between the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the upstream subsidiary of NNPC Limited, and ND Western Limited focuses on crude oil and natural gas production.
He noted that crude oil from the fields is transported to the Forcados Terminal for export, while natural gas is supplied to the West African Gas Pipeline, and Transcorp Power for electricity generation.
Awoviebe also addressed his colleagues, charging them to sustain productivity as a way of strengthening their voice in welfare negotiations.
“Problems are not solved in a day, but collaboration is the key. You cannot ask for improvements when you are not delivering. The more we increase production, the stronger our case for better welfare and pay,” he advised.
The event, attended by staff, union leaders, and management representatives, provided a rare platform for bonding outside the rigours of daily operations and reinforced the commitment to mutual growth and progress in OML34.
