Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has paid a heartfelt visit to Plateau State in a show of solidarity with victims of recent violent unrest, emphasizing compassion, unity, and national healing. Accompanied by Hajia Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, the First Lady arrived in the crisis-hit state on Thursday morning to console affected families and communities.

In an act of support, Senator Tinubu announced a ₦1 billion donation, along with essential relief items including food and clothing, aimed at providing immediate assistance to those displaced and traumatized by the violence. Her message was clear and emotional: she did not come just as the First Lady, but as a mother who feels the pain and loss of every affected family.

Addressing community leaders, the First Lady urged them to stand firm in their roles as protectors of peace and harmony, stating, “Mend the broken edge. Do not let the serpent strike again.” She expressed a deep hope that this would be her final visit to Plateau State under such sorrowful circumstances and offered prayers for lasting peace across the region.

Senator Tinubu called on men to take up their roles as guardians of their families and communities, ensuring women and children can live, grow, and trade in safety. She also directed a strong message to the youth, encouraging them to uphold the values embedded in the second stanza of the national anthem, unity, peace, and a shared national vision.

While commending Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his commitment to peacebuilding and for ensuring equitable distribution of aid, the First Lady reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to rebuilding trust, restoring livelihoods, and strengthening inter-communal relationships.

Ending her visit with a passionate appeal, she said, “Let us continue to choose peace. The Plateau is a land of beauty, tourism, and resilience. With renewed hope, healing is possible. May our beloved nation thrive.”

The First Lady’s visit not only brought comfort and practical support but also reignited conversations around justice, healing, and long-term solutions to ethno-religious conflicts in Plateau and beyond.
