Aged women and girls on Monday barricaded the popular Abraka junction to protest incessant cases of kidnapping in and around Abraka community in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Motorists and passengers travelling on the route were left stranded for hours following the traffic gridlock caused by the protesting women who said they were fed up and traumatized by the unabated incidents of abduction and called on the authorities to put an immediate end to the trend.

The aged women and girls danced naked across some major streets in Abraka carrying placards with inscriptions such as ‘End kidnapping in Abraka,’ ‘Enough is Enough’; ‘DPO must go,’ and ‘Hardship Is Unbearable’.

The protesters decried the incessant attacks by gunmen and other criminals in their area alleging that there was no day an incident of gunmen attack or kidnapping does not occur in the area.

According to them, some residents of Abraka community have relocated to other neighbouring communities thereby hindering the area’s growth.

The protesters accused operatives of Abraka Police Station, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), SP Fabian Ayameh, of not living up to expectations.

They appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State Police Commissioner to redeploy the DPO to restore calm and revive economic activities in the area.
