Super Eagles full-back and Nottingham Forest player, Ola Aina, has identified Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen as the top three toughest opponents he has faced in his career.
Twenty-eight-year-old Aina has emerged as one of the standout players for Forest this season, participating in all matches for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team until he suffered a calf injury during a game against Manchester United.
This season, Aina has netted two goals and assisted once in 31 league appearances as he aims to lead his team toward European competition for the first time this century.
Aina showcased his talent during Nottingham Forest’s 3-1 victory over Leicester City, where Wilfred Ndidi also played.
The player went head-to-head with the five-time Ballon d’Or recipient while at Torino, frequently clashing with Ronaldo in the Turin derby. The Forest defender commented that Ronaldo’s game-reading skills were noteworthy.
“His tricks and flair have diminished compared to his youth, yet his movement remains exceptional.
“He understands when to shift positions and has an impressive ability to anticipate the game’s flow.
“Competing against him was tough, especially considering he is Ronaldo,” the former Chelsea player stated in an ESPN interview.
On January 15, 2025, in St James Park, Newcastle United faced Wolverhampton Wanderers, where Alexander Isak celebrated scoring the opening goal.

The forward from Newcastle United has had an outstanding season, tallying 23 goals and delivering six assists in 32 matches for the Magpies. Aina regards the Swedish player as well-rounded.
“He’s an excellent forward. He possesses a diverse skill set. He’s quick, technically skilled, and capable of shooting, as well as delivering precise passes. He ranks among the best.”
Aina’s last selection was his teammate from the Super Eagles, Victor Osimhen.
The Galatasaray striker is a highly coveted player in Europe, known for his goal-scoring abilities and relentless pressing.
“He doesn’t allow you a moment of rest, and as a defender, encountering a striker who is persistent and aggressive can be overwhelming.
Additionally, Aina mentioned that he enjoys observing several players currently in football, specifically naming Ademola Lookman, Cole Palmer, and Alex Iwobi.
Overall, the former Torino player acknowledged that he remains grounded despite the accolades he has received for his performance with Nottingham Forest this season.
“Ademola is certainly up there, and my friend Iwobi is enjoying a solid season as well.
“I strive not to let either criticism or acclaim affect me. Football is unpredictable. One cannot get too elated or too dejected,” he concluded.
