Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related providers in the state’s public service, just as he vowed to rebuild a secondary school abandoned by the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In a communication notice issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, said that “all financial transactions and related services with affected consultants and service providers are to be put on hold immediately, pending when a review committee, established by the governor, submits its report.
“All accounting officers, heads of ministries, departments, and agencies are expected to take note and comply strictly with this directive.”
In another development, Gov. Okpebholo has given a timeline, within which he will rebuild the abandoned Ebomisi Secondary School in Ugbogiobo, Ovia North East Local Governments Area.
The school was abandoned by the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki, who was apparently angered by the support given to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gov. Okpebholo during the governorship election in the state.
Gov. Okpebholo, who visited the school on November 18, 2024, as promised during his campaign, said his administration will restore hope to the community.
He promised that the students would return to school and continue with their learning, as his administration would rebuild the school in two months.
The governor said his administration will embark on a practical style of governance and that it will be experienced in Ebomisi Secondary School in the next two months.
Gov. Okpebholo noted that “you can remember when we came to this particular school during our campaign, and I thought the former governor would have done justice to this school when the issue went viral on social media.

“Today, I am here after my inauguration as governor, as promised, and I am surprised that since then, nothing has happened here.
“My reason for coming here today is to bring back hope to this school and rebuild the school so that our children can go back there and continue with their learning.
“For me, this is not acceptable, as we have to go ahead to renovate this school and rebuild it. We will be here again in the next two months and you will see the state of the school.
“When we talk about Edobest, we have to really talk about Edobest, but not in this form. We are coming with the real Edobest.
“Our style of governance is practical. We told our people during the campaign that we were going to bring practical governance style to our people. What you will see here will be the practical thing. We will provide security, quality education, and portable water for them.”
