Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, intensified his administration’s urban renewal efforts with an unscheduled inspection of key infrastructure projects in Benin City, including the fast-advancing Ramat Park Flyover and a major flood-control site in a long-neglected community.
The Governor’s first stop was the Ramat Park Flyover construction zone, where he expressed surprise and satisfaction at the rapid pace of work. According to him, progress on the flyover has not only met expectations but surpassed initial timelines. He reaffirmed that his administration is committed to delivering durable, people-focused infrastructure that boosts mobility, commerce, and public confidence in government.
Project Manager, Lee Jianshou, briefed the Governor on significant milestones already achieved, noting that major structural elements have been completed.
“On the second span, we have finished about 14 spans of the beam-launching, and the remaining ones will be concluded before Christmas. With His Excellency’s support, we are on track to deliver by April 2026, latest, May 2026,” he said.
Commissioner for Works, Dr. Felix Akhabue, also praised the contractor for maintaining high standards and working ahead of schedule. He confirmed that ministry engineers are stationed on-site daily to ensure strict adherence to specifications.

“We are satisfied with both the quality and the speed of work. Supervision is constant, and all signs point to an early completion,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo reiterated that transparency and efficiency remain central to his development strategy. He assured residents that every project embarked upon by his administration is designed to significantly improve daily life for Edo people.
“I am impressed with what I’ve seen. My priority is for Edo people to see tangible results, and I will continue to support this project until it is delivered for the benefit of everyone,” he said.
The Governor later visited a flood-ravaged community near Ramat Park, where residents turned out in large numbers to applaud government intervention in solving a decade-long erosion crisis. The area, previously rendered impassable during rainy seasons, is now undergoing a comprehensive drainage and road rehabilitation programme.
Project Manager, Jianshou, explained that an extensive underground drainage network is under construction to redirect stormwater from the Auchi–Benin Road corridor toward the waterside.
“Once the drainage is complete, we will asphalt the road to ease traffic and permanently resolve flooding around Ramat Park,” he assured.
Governor Okpebholo described the intervention as essential to restoring safety, accessibility, and dignity to residents.
“This project is designed to control the erosion that has long plagued the Ramat Park axis. We are constructing underground drainage and will asphalt the road to make this area fully accessible for both residents and road users,” he stated.
