In a major shake-up at the Force Headquarters, the police have appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Placid as its new spokesperson, replacing Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benjamin Hundeyin.
It was learnt that Placid will now serve as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), with an official announcement expected soon.
Hundeyin’s removal comes barely six months after he assumed the role in September 2025, following his tenure as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
His exit is part of broader restructuring initiated under Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, who was appointed as the 23rd IGP by President Bola Tinubu.
As part of the changes, the police leadership has also created a new media office to strengthen digital communication and engagement.

Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa has been appointed to head the new unit, though sources clarified that his role is limited to social media operations and not the official spokesperson position.
Insiders allege that attempts were made in some quarters to pressure the inspector-general into confirming Giwa as force public relations officer, with bloggers reportedly mobilised to push narratives in his favour.
However, senior officers insist that the spokesperson role is reserved for a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
The restructuring reflects the renewed focus by the police to enhance communication, media relations, and public engagement under Disu’s leadership.
