Management of Oriental Energy Resources operating in Akwa Ibom State has pledged the company’s commitment to contributing its quota towards the realization of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Speaking in Uyo at the capacity building programme on Sustainable Community Development Planning and Management for stakeholders in the host communities, Managing Director of the company, Mustafa Indimi, said its commitment would assist to facilitate the development of the communities and the state.
He listed the core focus of the company’s investment in social interventions to include developments in community health, education, capacity building, human capital and sustainable community development.
Indimi, who was represented by the company’s Head of Community Relations, Uwem Ite, said completed and ongoing social investment initiatives embarked upon by the company, were designed and developed to contribute towards the achievement of United Nations’ SDGs.
He cited the girl-child menstrual health outreach programme carried out in June by Oriental Energy Resources for secondary schools in Akwa Ibom as being in line with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals three, four and five.

He said the five-day capacity building programme for representatives and stakeholders from the oil producing communities in Mbo Council of the state, focused its contents on “community needs assessment and prioritisation for implementation.”
He further explained that the programme will establish and sustain relationships with donor agencies and maintain the role of non-governmental organisations in community development, he added: “We will source for external funds for community development and keep contracting and procurement processes among other community related empowerment initiatives.”
Consultant for the workshop, Kunnyson Konsult, said it was aimed at ensuring effective and efficient learning, just as a participant, simply identified as Robinson, expressed the hope that at the end of the training exercise, the beneficiaries would gain knowledge in diverse areas that could improve their personal socio-economic improvement and overall community development in several ways.
