The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), the apex socio-cultural youth organization, has cautioned the National Assembly against failing to pass the bill mandating real-time transmission of election results, warning that such a move could pose serious risks to Nigeria’s democracy.

Speaking amid ongoing debates on the proposed legislation, the National President of OYC, Igboayaka Igboayaka, urged the Senate led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to carefully consider its decisions, stressing that Nigerians view real-time transmission of results as critical to electoral credibility and transparency.

According to him, the proposed law reflects public aspirations for free, fair, and transparent elections, adding that any attempt to undermine it could deepen political tensions and erode trust in democratic institutions.

Igboayaka also projected that the 2027 general election would mark a turning point in Nigeria’s political landscape, describing it as a ballot revolution, where voters, particularly youths, would use their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to demand accountability from political leaders.

He called on Igbo youths to remain politically active through lawful democratic participation, urging them to focus on civic engagement and peaceful mobilization rather than violence.

He further advised pro-Biafran and youth groups to channel their grievances toward constructive political processes and hold elected leaders accountable for development challenges in Igboland.

The OYC leader emphasized that the power of the electorate lies in organized participation at polling units and collation centres, encouraging young voters to reject electoral malpractice and resist inducement from politicians.

Igboayaka also urged youths to prioritize democratic action, noting that collective civic participation remains the most effective means of driving political change and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
