Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has Lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing a Southerner as Federal Minister for Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday by its factional Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze said it was a welcome development that the President has finally appointed a Southerner to the position, which has been occupied by Northerners since the return of democracy in 1999.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo noted that the last Southerner to occupy the office of FCT minister was late Prof. Miriam Odinchezo lkejiani-Clark, an Igbo and first woman to be appointed as FCT boss by Gen Sani Abacha 1995-97.

The organization said it is hopeful that the new FCT minister, Nyesom Ezewo Wike, will work to ensure that the development of the territory is not lopsided, but reflects the interests of all Nigerians.
Nothing that is indeed happy that after the last southerner, the late Prof. Miriam Odinchezo Ikejiani-Clark, left office as FCT minister in 1997, President Tinubu has now balanced history with the appointment of another southerner, the Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as FCT Minister.
The body added that Abuja under Wike will surely taste the magic wand of Mr Projects, a nickname for the good governance in River State, saying that Tinubu and FCT residents can now sleep with their eyes closed.
