Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has joined President Bola Tinubu and other senior government officials at a high-level bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in bid to reaffirm the state’s commitment to international economic collaboration .
Held on the sidelines of global diplomatic engagements in Brazil, the meeting provided a platform to deepen Nigeria-Brazil relations, with Ogun State taking centre stage due to its growing economic ties with the South American nation.
In 2025 alone, Ogun State secured two major investment deals with Brazilian conglomerates.
In February, Brazil’s leading food processing company committed $2.5 billion to agro-industrial development in the state, a move expected to create thousands of jobs and strengthen the state’s status as Nigeria’s agricultural hub.
This was followed in March by a landmark agreement with Brazil’s fourth-largest energy producer to develop new power infrastructure across the state, further addressing the nation’s energy deficit.

Gov. Abiodun noted that these strategic partnerships are already reshaping Ogun State’s economic landscape and aligns perfectly with the themes of the bilateral engagement, which are trade, infrastructure, energy, and sustainable development.
“This engagement is more than diplomacy,” the governor stated.
“It is a deliberate effort to consolidate strategic partnerships that will unlock new frontiers in trade, infrastructure, education, and agro-industrial transformation for our people back home.”
He added that Ogun State remains fully aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by proactively seeking global partnerships that deliver real value to local communities.
“We are thinking globally and acting locally—for the future we envision, and the prosperity our people deserve,” he said.
Gov. Abiodun’s participation underscores Ogun State’s rising profile as an investment destination and a model for how subnational governments can drive foreign direct investment through purposeful international engagement.
