The Ogun State Police Command has opened an investigation into a viral video in which a young woman identified as Mirabel alleged that she was raped in her home by an unknown man.
Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the command acted swiftly after the video surfaced online. He said the Divisional Police Officer of the Ibafo Division was directed to immediately establish contact with the victim and ensure her safety.
According to Babaseyi, the young woman reported to the Ibafo Police Station, where officers obtained details of the allegation. Preliminary findings indicated that the incident allegedly occurred in the Ogijo area of Ogun State.
She was taken to a medical facility for examination and urgent care before being transferred to the Ogijo Police Station, which has jurisdiction over the area where the alleged assault took place. The transfer was necessary for formal documentation and to allow detectives to continue their inquiries.
The police spokesperson stated that, due to her condition, the victim has been referred for comprehensive medical treatment to support her recovery and aid the investigation.
The command assured the public that it remains committed to safeguarding the victim and pursuing justice through due process. Authorities also urged residents to remain calm and allow investigators to carry out a thorough and professional inquiry into the matter.
The case has drawn widespread attention on social media, prompting renewed conversations around sexual violence, public safety, and the role of law enforcement in responding to such allegations in Ogun State.
