The relative peace returning to most communities in Ogoni was on Sunday ruptured as assassins targeted a prominent traditional ruler in the area, Suanu Baridam, of the Gbeneme Bangha Kingdom in Khana Local Government Area.
It was gathered that the attack was the second attempt by assassins on the life of the royal father, who reportedly sustained a gunshot injury to his knee.
The identities of the assassins are yet to be established, and no arrests have been reported as of press time.
The motive of the attack could also not be linked to any known incident.
